However, visualization can be used to improve performance as well as reduce public speaking anxiety. Our recent research has been devoted to developing visualization procedures that will reduce speech anxiety as well as help speakers improve their performance ability (Ayres & Hopf, 1991).

The purpose of this workshop is to help you identify the negative self-instructions you use when confronted with the need to give a public speech. Once these thoughts have been identified, we will present procedures to help you cope with these negative, disruptive thoughts. The first step in this process is to identify negative selfinstructions you entertain when you have to give a speech.
